New Additions To Madden 21 Ultimate Team

Posted By Video Game     February 23, 2021

Body

Madden 21 is the newest entry in Electronic Arts' annual NFL simulation series to release. Over the years, the Ultimate Team mode, where players acquire cards and build out their dream NFL roster, has exploded in both popularity and profitability.

With plenty of players entering the mode for the first time, they need to know some new features they can use in Madden 21 Ultimate Team. The game mode is including new features like ability caps, a new item layout, and more.

Ability Caps

One of the biggest changes this year came to Ultimate Team, with the introduction the Ability Cap. Ability Caps adds a new layer to team building that allows players to customize how they want their team to perform on the field. Every ability has an Ability Point (AP) cost and they will be given an AP Limit for each. Different Abilities will have different AP costs as well as different AP costs depending on the player's archetype. There will be an AP cap of 10 at launch and will see occasional increases throughout the year.

Another key feature in Ability Caps is that it will allow up to 5 Abilities per individual player. The breakdown will look like this:

80 OVR: Tier 1 Ability Slot
85 OVR: Tier 2 Ability Slot
90 OVR: Tier 3 Ability Slot
98 OVR: Tier 3 Ability Slot
99 OVR: Tier 3 Ability Slot

New Card Art

Another new aspect of this year's MUT is the card art that many of you may have seen already. It is important to note that there are 2 different designs this year: 50/50 and 80/20. The 50/50 design will only appear when highlighting a specific player. Half of the card will display player art while the other half will provide important information such as position, archetype, overall rating, X-Factor/Superstar Abilities, whether the item is Power Up eligible, and if the card happens to be NAT or LTD. The 80/20 design will be the default display for all player items that are not currently being highlighted. This view will have card art in the 80% portion with name, overall rating, and team displayed in the 20% sidebar.

Rivalz

Rivalz is essentially an introductory mode to Ultimate Team that consists of Arcade game settings with simple end conditions. Completing all Rivalz challenges will give you the option to select 1 of the following 85 OVR players:

Ben Roethlisberger
Zach Ertz
Jaylon Smith

Console Transition

Big for gamers is coins, training, points, and more can be moved to the next-gen console. This will not be done as a “one-time push” like it was in the previous console generation transition. Instead, they will co-exist together. Any change or update made on one generational platform will also show up in the other.
